That includes conducting maintenance and safety checks, and of course, preparing reports. Your cup of coffee is about to get a little more expensiveYour cup of coffee is about to get a little more expensiveDeforestation has proved to be detrimental for two of the most popular coffee species,Arabica and Robusta. As previously reported, the extinction of these breeds presents several economic challenges for nations that rely on them as major exports. Additionally, climate change has injured coffee producers. Lower production demands higher costs. The surplus is predicted to fall from the 9 mio bags reported last year, to 5 million bags this year.Follow Ladders on FlipboardFollow Ladders magazines on Flipboard covering Happiness, Productivity, Job Satisfaction, Neuroscience, and moreCoffee prices already on the riseThe spike in coffee prices isnt strictly an agronomy concern. Coffee culture in the west also goes a long way to influence the price of your morning java.Last year, Starbucks raised the price of its coffee by about 20 cents at most of its U.S. locations. A saturated market similarly saw local shops raise their prices as well. With so many different options for consumers to choose from in any given area companies have become desperate for the slightest sign of incremental growth. When a big chain, such as Starbucks faces a maturing market, it will close down stores that are not profitable. But the company also will increase prices at high-performing stores to maximize the revenue it can create,Shawn Hacket, president of Hackett Financial Advisors, a Boca Raton, Florida based agriculture commodity analysis firm told WUSA9.The customer loyalty procured by local shops and coffee corporations alike, ensure we keep going back despite subtle price increases. Many of us rely on the stuff, and even with the already subtle rise in price, it really isnt all that expensive, relatively speaking. But will the accumulation of steadily rising coffee costs ever become too much? The increase is inventible fractionally, at any rate, is due to inflation. but more substantially because of the environmental oppositions plaguing coffees biggest distributors.Columbia and Brazils crop is expected to fall to about 1 million bags this year (Brazils decline owes itself to schwimmbad weather occurrences in December and January), and Central Americas crops are predicted to decline to about 1.5 million bags.Even slight changes in climate can dramatically disrupt the quality ofArabica. Many jobseekers are applying as many as 400 times with no interviews or referrals to a supervisor.14 OF THE MOST IMPORTANT TIPS FOR WRITING A SUCCESSFUL FEDERAL RESUME1.LENGTH Most Federal Resumes are 4 to 5 pages long. Mid-career professionals with 15 to20 years experience will have a 5 page federal resume. A 2 page private-industry resume WILL NOT WORK.2.MORE DETAILS You need to include more details about your duties and accomplishments in your last position or the most relevant position. The typical private-industry resume will have 8 to 10 bullets of information about each position. The federal resume duties section spells out what you did, usually in complete sentences. The position that is most relevant for the federal position could be an entire page long.3.FORMAT Make sure the resume i s readable for human resources specialists who have hundreds of resumes to review to determine who is most qualified for their positions. Many private industry resumes consist of short statements with bullets. Many current federal employees write their resumes in huge block of type based on position descriptions. The best format is a reverse chronological Outline Format. The Outline Format features the top skills needed for the position. For a Public Affairs Specialist, the top skills could be Media Specialist, Writer-Editor, Researcher / Analyst, Media Events Coordinator.4.TYPEFONT Feature the Top Skills in ALL CAPS, so that the busy human resources reviewer can find the skills they are seeking.5.KEYWORDS Add language and keywords from the vacancy announcement Duties and Specialized Experience into your federal resume. You can find the keywords by search for words that are repeated multiple times in the announcement behauptung could be technical terms or phrases that describe speci fic skills.6.PROVE YOUR EXPERIENCE You will see the USAJOBS vacancy announcements will tell you that they want to see One Year Specialized Experience in a certain field in your resume. The announcement will also suggest types of examples that can help to prove your experience.7.10 YEARS EXPERIENCE The federal HR specialists typically read / scan the last 10 years of experience in your federal resume. The years before 10 years can be added to the resume, but keep that information shorter.8.RECENT AND RELEVANT The HR specialists will be looking for recent and relevant experience in your Work Experience Section.9.MONTH, YEAR AND HOURS PER WEEK It is imperative that you add the month and year and hours per week for your jobs. Since they have to see that you have One Year Specialized Experience in positions and level that are similar to this job, you will need to add this information to your resume.10.SALARY The federal resume in USAJOBS asks for your salaries for the last 10 years. They need to see your salaries in order to see your experience and judge the grade level that you could be qualified for in a government position.11.COVER LETTER You can add a cover letter into the USAJOBS account now, after Federal Hiring Reform. We recommend a cover letter to emphasize your specialized experience and most relevant training or experience for the position.12.RECENT AND RELEVANT JOBS You do NOT have to add every job into your USAJOBS Resume Builder. If you have short-term positions which were taken to earn cash for bills, you can leave it out. Yes, it will leave a little bit of blank time, but the HR specialist is really seeking the specialized experience.13.5 USAJOBS RESUMES USAJOBS will allow you to upload 5 resumes. 5 Unusual Olympic Jobs - and What It Takes to Get Hired5 Unusual Olympic Jobs - and What It Takes to Get Hired5 Unusual Olympic Jobs and What It Takes to Get HiredThere is no doubt about it athletes are at the center of the Olympic Games. They are the focus of the crowds in Rio and at home. They are the stars of media interviews. However, it takes more than world-class sportsmanship to pull off the Olympics. TWEET With nearly 11,000 athletes and 500,000 foreign travelers arriving to watch the Games, thousands of people work tirelessly behind the scenes to run the infrastructure and beistand the events. Here is a small sample of those virtually invisible Olympic jobs that make the events come together.LifeguardBy now you must have seen the picture of the bored lifeguard by the Olympic pool that nearly blew up the Internet. OK, maybe he welches not working tirelessly at the moment the picture was taken. However, the law requires him to be there. While he may seem (and feel) redundant w hen swimmers like Michael Phelps are in the pool, some water sports do carry a certain amount of risk. Water polo and diving are just two examples when first aid may become necessary.Ball PersonYep, those are the men and women who scurry after the balls on the tennis courts. As you might imagine, that job involves a lot of sprinting, so the ball persons have to qualify for the position. In addition to the physical demands of the task, there are mental pressures as well after all, the ball person must track the ball at all times, anticipate what happens next, and be ready to move at any second.CateringAll those athletes and guests have to be fed An grenzberschreitend team of chefs stands at the ready to serve the crowds, with 60,000 meals to prepare and serve daily to the athletes alone. There are five buffets Brazilian, Asian, International, Pasta and Pizza, and Halal and Kosher. Chefs must guarantee that all meats are free from steroids that might cause an athlete to test positive on a doping test, so coordination with catering companies is critical.Cleaning and waste managementAs anyone who has ever attended a public event can testify, crowds sure generate a lot of trash. Clean-up at the Olympic facilities is a constant uphill battle. From sweat mopping on the courts to trash pick-up, janitorial crews keep the venues from turning into rivers of used napkins and wrappers. The Olympic Committee for the London Games in 2012 set the lofty goal of zero-waste to landfill. The Games in Rio have been plagued by a much more challenging starting point (human waste in the water is just one of the problems), so the organizers and coordinators have a big task ahead of them.SecurityThe 2016 Rio Olympics are the first Games in South America, a premise that comes with its unique set of security challenges. Brazil is known for street crime and protests, and tourists and athletes might look like easy wealthy targets. Security planning for the games involves intense preparati on including security surveys, route analysis, and crisis response. Security teams coordinate and interface with emergency first responders in the event of a threat or injury. Security personnel must be trained on Olympic procedures, as well as cultural sensitivity and situational awareness. With a range of jobs stretched far and wide, and exotic destinations as a bonus, have you considered that you can work at the next Olympic Games? While it may be too late for you to jet to Rio, recruiting has yet to kick off for the upcoming Games in South Korea, Japan, and China. The hiring teams will be looking for about 150,000 staff, contractors and volunteers to make the Games run smoothly.Think you have what it takes to be a part of the Olympic support team? Here is the list of requirements. The specifics vary depending on the location, and organizers report that approximately one out of every 10 or 20 candidates gets hired, although that hiring rate varies by position. For jobs that requir e little technical skill and have a large candidate pool, 99% of candidates might be turned away. For highly specialized and technical positions that require a targeted executive search, one out of every three applicants might get hired. Here is what the hiring team is looking for.Strong team playersfruchtwein positions that support the Olympic Games are temporary by definition. As a result, for these Olympic jobs, the organizers usually seek out strong team players who have demonstrated the ability to learn quickly and work well with a group of professionals who are new to each other. The ability to connect with the mission of the Olympics, as well as understand the interdependent pieces of a large-scale project, is also critical for certain roles.Language skillsFor the Games in Rio, the organizers were looking for candidates bilingual in Portuguese and English a tough requirement that narrowed the candidate pool considerably. The ability to communicate is critical, so if you are proficient in the host language and English you may have an advantage over other candidates. Flexibility, adaptability and resilienceWith a different host country and facilities for each Olympic event, organizers and support staff do not have the same-old routines to fall back on. As a result, for many Olympic jobs, recruiters look for candidates who have demonstrated flexibility and the ability to adapt to changing circumstances.Professional experienceMany support jobs at the Games require little technical training, but certain other positions, like facilities energy management, project management and logistics, and specialty IT support demand extensive professional experience. Henrique Gonzalez, Human Resource Director for Rio 2016, observed that ideally he seeks out candidates with both academic qualifications and strong professional experience. Most Common Resume Lies
Most Common Resume Lies Most Common Resume Lies The most common places on a resume where honesty slips off the page. What are the most common tall tales Americans tell on their resumes? According to Accu-Screen Inc., a Tampa, Fla., company that specializes in employment background screening of job applicants, the most common resume lies are exaggerations and inflated numbers including dates of employment, salary and fictitious job titles. Bogus degrees and imaginary certifications are less commons, but frequent enough, the company reports. The company is expert at how and how often job seekers lie, having tracked the findings of extensive employment background checks since its 1994 inception. Accu-Screenâs reference checks reveal 8 percent of accomplishments listed in resume job descriptions to be, at best, exaggerations, and 18 percent of resumes include fake companies or lie about companies no longer in business. Here are the top seven places where honesty slips off the resume page, gleaned from the companyâs 15 years of record ed fibs, exaggerations and flat-out lies:1. Dates of employmentItâs understandable to be a little fuzzy on dates, but when years of tenure creep in to a job description, an applicant is likely hiding employment gaps.Where theyâll find the truth: A thorough reference check.2. Job titleResumes magically give promotions more often than do employers, according to Accu-Screenâs data. A fudged job title often goes hand-in-hand with inflated salary on job applications.Where theyâll find the truth: A thorough reference check.3. Criminal recordsPeople understandably fear that their job applications will be rejected if they have a criminal history and will lie about this history regardless of how serious or trivial their crime. A much more serious prospect is presented by those who intend to repeat their criminal activity, whether itâs embezzling or criminal negligence.Where theyâll find the truth: A criminal background check.4. Inflated salaryConfidentiality issues often prevent employers from divulging salary information. Sneaky job applicants can and do use this to inflate their salaries and thereby improve their bargaining position.Where theyâll find the truth: A thorough reference check.5. Education (e.g., bogus degrees)Accu-Screen estimates that 16 percent of academic degrees and institutions listed on resumes are falsified. Job seekers also falsify 15 percent of technical skills and certifications. That includes the job seeker graduating him- or herself, claiming a degree when none was earned. Some dishonest job seekers go so far as to steal another personâs identity by borrowing their educational credentials.Where theyâll find the truth: Background screening includes verifying educational claims with universities and other training facilities.6. Professional license (MD, RN, CPA, et al.)Beyond just âgraduatingâ themselves, some dishonest job applicants are hitching unearned titles to their names. This is an especially egregious lie, given th at employers are legally liable and can suffer serious financial penalties for falsely passing off employees as being credentialed.Where theyâll find the truth: Background screening includes verifying licenses with accrediting agencies.7. âGhostâ company (self-owned business)Just because you spent a few weeks putting a new roof on your motherâs house doesnât mean you owned and ran your own carpentry and construction business for a number of years.According to Accu-Screen, applicants are currently falsifying 18 percent of past employers by making up fictitious companies or by falsifying or exaggerating information about a company thatâs gone out of business. Job seekers may also use this tactic to cover up employment gaps.Where theyâll find the truth: Legitimate businesses can be verified by business licenses or DBA (doing business as) filings. Background checks will also uncover criminal records.

Find Out About Team Culture and Clear Expectations
Find Out About Team Culture and Clear Expectations Find Out About Team Culture and Clear Expectations In an effective team culture, the concept of context is addressed. Team members understand why they are participating on the team and how the team fits within their organization. When you consider factors that make a team successful, understanding their organizations expectations is one of the top twelve factors in team success. In an effective team culture, team members understand where the work of their team fits in the total context of their organizations strategic plan and success goals. This is important because teams that feel that they are part of something bigger than themselves tend to experience increased engagement and work satisfaction. When the organizational culture supports teamwork, team members understand how the strategy of using teams fits in the total context of their organizations strategic plan and success goals, too. Team members understand why using teams will help their organization attain its business goals- and how they can attain their personal goals through effective participation. In fact, they understand the context of a team culture so well, that they are convinced that teams are the only way their organization will excel. Older Generations of Employees and Team Culture This is an understanding that you will need to woo Baby Boomer employees, and to a degree, Gen X employees, to experience. Especially your Baby Boomers represent a generation that consisted of fully contributing individual performers. These employees had little experience of teams, other than athletic teams, and it was difficult to convince them that team-based culture and team expectations were superior ways in which they could contribute. A whole generation of consultants made their living working with these employees to help them understand the positive contributions that teams and a teamwork culture could make in an organization. Older Gen Xers are in this group of employees as well. But, if you think about how both of these generations of employees were raised, it is clear why team participation and contribution was a challenge to their thinking and experience. They were rewarded for individual grades through 12 - 18 years of education. Classes rarely worked in a teamwork fashion except in pairs. First jobs rarely gave them any experience of teams. So, after experiencing a career of individual contribution, teams became the great new thing in workplaces. And, generations of employees with little teamwork experience were expected to get on board. Millennial employees see teams differently. Schools got on board with teams and teamwork and Millennials have experienced teams their entire lives. In fact, I hired a millennial employee who pounded on my desk during the interview and demanded to be part of a team if we decided to employ her. It was a refreshing experience after spending years constantly encouraging an environmental culture of teamwork. Effective Teams Spend Time Defining Their Culture In a successful team culture, teams understand where their work fits in the total context of the organizations mission, goals, principles, vision, and values. Team members spend time defining their team culture by agreeing upon team norms and expectations within the companys overall team context. They make certain that they have all of the information that they need to successfully perform their team charter, the reason for the teams existence. If they lack any of the twelve factors necessary to effective team performance, they will struggle unnecessarily on team issues rather than directing their energy to accomplish the task for which the team was formed. Finally, team members understand that 20 percent of the problems that they will experience as a team will fall within the context of the task or mission the team is assigned to accomplish. The other 80 percent of the problems they experience will relate to their team culture and the processes team members establish and commit to for interacting with each other as team members. An additional thought is necessary for the team to determine how the team will interact with the rest of the organization. Within their team, this communication and contact will reinforce and enhance the teams understanding of why they exist and what they are expected to contribute. Establishing thoughtful reporting requirements will help team members know when it is appropriate to report progress and needs to other teams, departments, or the organization as a whole. This will prevent what other team members may see as leaking or demonstrating disloyalty to the team.

Tips for Writing a Post-Job Interview Thank-You Note
Tips for Writing a Post-Job Interview Thank-You Note Tips for Writing a Post-Job Interview Thank-You Note Many aspects of the job search process have changed over the years- from applying to jobs online, to the more recent adaptation of a video resume. However, one thing has remained unchanged, and that is the importance of sending a post-job interview thank-you note. Some professionals may deem the practice outdated, but most employers still expect to receive one- and they usually appreciate and take note of the gesture. The act of writing a thank-you note is fairly simple, takes little time, and can make a huge impact on your overall job interview. So theres really no reason not to do it! A thank-you note can help you stand out from the competition and show that youre willing to go above and beyond what is required of you in an interview. While the practice is simple, there are a few key points to take into consideration before writing a thank-you note after an interview. Here are six tips for writing a post-job interview thank-you note: 1. Remember that timing is everything. Be sure to send out your letter the same or the next day. Most experts agree the thank-you email should be sent within 24 hours. You want to stand out amongst other candidates, so the sooner you send it, the greater chance you have at making a lasting impression. 2. Keep it short and sweet. Hiring managers are typically quite busy, so keep your letter concise and to the point. A great letter includes elements such as your enthusiasm for the position, a reminder of why youd be perfect for the job, something specific about the role or the company culture that you connected with and, of course, a thank-you for their time. 3. Make it professional. Youve made it this fardont throw it all away now by making an inappropriate joke or asking a rude question! Remain professional, even if you feel like the interview conversation was fairly informal at some points. This person isnt your new BFF- theyre your potential employer. 4. Mention a highlight from the conversation. Again, you want to keep this short and mostly focused on how grateful you are for their time and consideration. But to really stand out and remind the hiring manager of how wonderful the interview was (at least from your point of view!), and remind them of who you are (maybe the interviewed a dozen people that day!), briefly mention a highlight from the conversation or something you know they really enjoyed hearing or talking about. For instance, if their eyes lit up and their ears perked when you talked about your great communication skills, touch on that again in your thank-you note. If you bonded over having graduated from the same college, a simple P.S. Go Wildcats! might put a smile on their face. 5. Properly address the recipient. For consistency, take note of what you referred to the hiring manager as during the interview and try and use that same label for your thank-you note. If youâre unclear on how to address the hiring manager, itâs best to be safe and stick with Ms., Mrs., or Mr. However, if they explicitly asked you to refer to them by their first name during the interview, its okay to use that in the letter. 6. Send an individual note to each person you met with. Whatever you do, dont send one generic note to everyone you spoke with. Rachel Burack, a Café Coach with Capital One, suggests writing a separate, slightly customized note to each person who played an important role in your interview process, even those who interviewed you over the phone. Its fine to use a similar template- but customize at least part of each note, and be sure to triple-check the name at the top! Copying and pasting can be a dangerous game.

4 Causes of Employee Demotivation With HR Solutions
4 Causes of Employee Demotivation With HR Solutions 4 Causes of Employee Demotivation With HR Solutions Do you work in an office filled with motivational posters? You know, the ones with mountain scenes and phrases like, âDifficult roads often lead to beautiful destinationsâ and âYou never fail until you stop trying.â They are lovely, but often employee demotivation posters seem more appropriate. Something like, âEvery dead body on Mount Everest belonged to a highly motivated person,â or âTeamwork: Ensuring that your hard work can be ruined by a coworkerâs incompetence.â if you work in an office where you feel demotivated- or youâre the manager (or HR manager) of a team that lacks motivation and enthusiasm, you might wonder where youâve gone wrong. These are four common causes of employee demotivation, and how you can overcome them. Low or Unfair Pay You can pay all of your employees above market rate, and you will still demotivate employees if your pay structures arenât fair. If John and Sally are doing similar jobs, their paychecks must be similar, and you need to be able to clearly articulate why there may be differences in their salaries. Itâs okay if Sally makes more money because she has additional experience and higher performance ratings. But, itâs not okay if she makes more money because sheâs female and youâre trying to make up for past discrimination. How HR Can Fix This Employee Demotivation Issue Run a pay audit. Do this regularly. Every time you hire or promote a person internally, take a look at salaries and make sure the amounts look equivalent and fair. Keep an eye on your salary market rates even if you donât have employee turnover. Bullies in the Workplace Coming into work is hard enough even when you offer your employees a pleasant environment, but if you have a company or department bully, you may find that they find it difficult to get excited about work at all. This can happen even if the actual work is fulfilling and precisely what they want to do. A bully can exist at any level and antagonize any level. Bosses can be afraid of an intern just as interns can fear their bosses, and bullying knows no gender. How HR Can Fix This Employee Demotivation Issue Bullying, as long as itâs not directed at an individual based on their protected classification, is legal. But, legal doesnât make bullying right. You need to create and enforce a zero-tolerance bullying policy. No one should be teasing, harassing, or generally making life miserable for others. HR has to put in a lot of work to pin down bullying and put a stop to it- after all, bullies have been perfecting their craft since elementary school- but itâs absolutely critical if you want to motivate rather than demotivate your employees. Disorganization When the boss doesnât know whats happening when, or assigns two people one task and forgets to assign the other task, work becomes stressful and demotivating for employees. If one employee is drowning in work and another spends half the day on YouTube, the second employee may be just a slacker, but the disparity may be a result of disorganization, and workflows that are ineffective. How HR Can Fix This Employee Demotivation Issue Disorganization is a super complicated issue because it has an infinite number of underlying causes. A scatterbrained manager may need an excellent administrative assistant to keep on track. Or, if workflows back up and result in a disorganized mess between departments, you may have to rework how departments interact with each other. The key to solving disorganization as an employee demotivation issue is spotting disorganization as the problem and working to fix it. Remember to ask the people directly affected by the problem as they may have the best insights into how to fix the problem. Stringent Work Rules Some organizations, of course, need to have strict rules. If youâre working with dangerous chemicals, for example, every employee needs to follow every protocol with exactness. But, in other situations, the specific expectations and rules arent necessary. If you dock an exempt employeeâs vacation time off when she leaves 30 minutes early on Tuesday, even though she worked 45 hours this week, you demotivate your employee. When you refuse an employees request to work from home just because you donât like to have employees work where you canât see them, you demotivate your employees. How HR Can Fix This Employee Demotivation Issue Todayâs employees want flexibility. They know flexible schedules are available at other companies, so you need to offer them as well if you want to retain your best employees. Look at the effort and thoughtfulness needed to the get the job done, and not so closely at peopleâs font choices, whether they clock in at 9:00 or 9:08, or whether they listen to podcasts while they work. HR needs to train managers to look for places where they can offer flexibility rather than defaulting to a no. Employees want to like their jobs. You want your employees to like their jobs. When you work towards fulfilling these expectations, youâll have motivated employees. Fail to do so, and youâll find that employee demotivation is rampant.

In fact, upcycling and reusing is in the spirit of mindful fashion! In addition to online shopping, used clothes often find their home in thrift and second-hand stores. Itâs a perfect shopping escapade for those who still love the adventure of shopping offline, and you can meet plenty of interesting people who can point you to the most sustainable brands and the most unique stores in your neighborhood. Then again , you can blend the digital with the offline: stay informed on social media when thereâs a swap organized in your vicinity, so that you can get ready in time. Finally, even if you cut your wardrobe in half, declutter perfectly, and find trusty vendors, you need to make sure that the new changes in your style are still in accordance with what makes you so unique and beautiful. Explore new cuts and colors, by all means, but always make sure to opt for things that you know will flatter your figure and that you know will have a purpose in your wardrobe.Whatâs the point of getting a pair of transparent boots if youâre more into eco-suede, or getting a ball gown if you never ever attend events that require such a dress-code (and you secretly prefer simple maxi dresses instead)? Heres Why The Recruiters Ignoring Your Resume
Heres Why The Recruiters Ignoring Your Resume Heres Why The Recruiters Ignoring Your Resume In a conversation I just had with a senior-level, experienced candidate, she expressed the frustration that comes from applying for jobs that look like they fit to a T, only to hear radio silence. âThere have been at least 100 roles over the last 6 months,â she said. âI look down the list of qualifications and I can definitely check off those boxes, I have reached out in every way I know how, but people just donât respond.â Recruiters are busy people, yes. But itâs certainly possible to catch and hold their attention, in order to prompt them to call you. Letâs take a look at three simple fixes you can make on your resume today. Center On What You Do I know you have dreams. I know you have aspirations. I know you just know you can do the job. Thatâs what you know in your mind, but ask yourself this question: does your resume actually SAY that? On countless occasions of writing resumes for candidates over the last 19 years, when I ask what they can come into a company and do, I get some nebulous answer regarding how they can provide leadership to cross-functional teams. Do you realize that thatâs not actually the center of what you do? EVERYone can say they lead cross-functional teams. So hereâs a pro tip: if everyone can say it, then you donât belong saying it. Center on your job function. Are you a Marketer? An Operations Manager? A Chief Financial Officer. Say that without all the fluffy and self-??compl?i?mentary language. Center On What You Did With Excellence Your resume is not a history lesson history is boring. Your resume is a marketing document that showcases what youâve already done well. Highlighting these points makes the business case for what you can do next. Your past employers didnât just hire you and retain you because you did your job as written in the description. The expectation was that you would perform with excellence. Assuming you did so, then itâs critical that you say so. Did you conduct sales? In what size territory? In as region with what ranking? You captured how many new customers? You delivered how much in new revenue? Weâre you in marketing? You innovated what campaign? It reached how many members of your ideal audience? The campaign directly led to what amount of revenue? Center On What You Will Do (Based On What You Have Done) It falls so flat when your resume opens with, â?Finance industry executive with 25 years of experience. Andso WHAT? Solely stating your number of years of experience doesn't mean much. It's important to adopt the what's in it for me? mentality just apply that to the person on the receiving end of your resume. Think forward to the next step: your number of years of experience means you can come in and actually DO something that the potential employer needs done. For example, Finance industry executive who builds and optimizes the accounting function, defines internal control framework, and structures the organization for growth. ?Centering on what you do, what you've done in the past with excellence, and what you're ready, willing, and able to do for your next employer, provides the foundation for an attention-grabbing, engaging message that tells the recruiter what she needs to know within the 1st few seconds of glancing over your resume. 5 More Ways to Recruit Employees Online
5 More Ways to Recruit Employees Online 5 More Ways to Recruit Employees Online In an earlier article about recruiting online, you were encouraged to create a careers website for your companys recruiting efforts. Then, online networking through email and social media was encouraged for developing a broad, tech-savvy talent pool. These are five additional ways to use the web for recruiting. Use Professional Association Websites for Recruiting Post your open positions on professional association websites. It includes posting on local chapter websites or professional associations related to the job. (This is an excellent method for finding local talent.) Your online recruiting definitely targets the right applicant at a professional website. Many professional sites also send out emails to their members and/or post open positions in their journal, newsletters or magazine. For a small fee, if you have the time, you will reach a targeted, potential audience through professional association mailings to members. Use College and University Alumni and Career Services Websites for Recruiting You can usually post your positions at no cost on college and university job boards. They are a service for students and alumni, and the educational institutions strive to create more postings. Additionally, for specialized positions, often departments have their own job boards. They may also provide employers email access to alumni mailing lists. While seeking an Environmental Compliance Specialist, I found several candidates through the University of Michiganâs Department of Natural Resources. If you develop a relationship with your area universities, you will also make your organization top of mind when the office makes job referrals or students seek internships. This relationship building should extent to departments where you anticipate hiring their majors as employees. Post Positions on Local and National Low-cost Private and Public Sector Websites Post open positions on websites that private vendors or your state and/or local government provide. By recruiting online at these sites, you target local candidates for your available positions. Even posting at national low and no-cost sites, you can target local jobseekers. In Michigan, positions can be posted, at no cost or low cost, on various websites including: MLive.com - Everything Michigan and Michigan workforce development, this site provides local candidates. Iâm sure your state or country has an equivalent site.Post your available positions at Americas Job Bank, Click your state on the map to be taken to your states website.Your state Workforce Development organization, through your state department of labor, appreciates employer job listings. In Michigan, employers can post positions with the Michigan Talent Bank through the Michigan Works. Youll find multiple options for both posting positions and searching for jobs when you have located your state or country agency. Post Your Classified Ads on Newspaper-related Websites. Most newspapers have an affiliated website where you can post ads. These ads are either included in the price of a classified print ad, or you can pay separately for online posting only. The advantage of the online posting is that the ads appear on the web for 30-60 days rather than in one edition of the newspaper. Additionally, you donât pay by the space taken; this allows you to use the space necessary to describe the position. Make sure your Internet ads sell the vision and the advantages of your organization. Effective ads portray your company as an exciting and rewarding place to work. Effective job postings make people want to apply to your firm. Note that paper newspapers are becoming scarce. Even for local job postings, many of them have completely moved their content online. Pay to Post Recruiting Ads on Commercial Websites Websites such as Monster.com attract large national and international audiences. In a recent search for a Chief Financial Officer (CFO), posted at Monster.com, we received over 150 applications. In fact, one of our finalists for the position would never have found us except for our online job posting. The key to working well with the commercial websites is to: expect pricing deals for frequent use or multiple online job listings,re-use your posting locations for different positions when you have the applicants you need for a specific opening, use keyword and location filters supplied by the sites, andrecognize that many commercial sites that specialize in particular fields or positions are now available. A quick search by the position desired and the words, âjob search site,â will provide many options. Youâll want to sign up for my free newsletter now because you want to read all of the new articles as soon as they are available. Join HR on Facebook and Google.
